Grandma’s

I lost my light about halfway into this painting and had to finish it up at home but that was ok because I could paint this house from memory. If I wanted to roll back time I could add in the ancient valley oak, the orchard with neon orange persimmons, the vegetable garden off to the right trimmed with roses, the red barn or the glass jar of chocolate chip cookies sitting in the kitchen window. It has changed a lot over the years but it will always be grandma’s to me.

Post Sunset Vineyards

I was out at the ranch yesterday and was able to paint a quick sunset. This is the view across the street from the winery entrance, looking west.

Sidewinder at Sugar Bowl

More ski painting at Sugar Bowl! Here is the view looking west towards Mt. Disney from Sidewinder on a very sunny afternoon. I lost track of how many people slowed down or stopped to see what I was painting. It was a really fun place setup.

The Palisades at Sugar Bowl

I was at Sugar Bowl this last weekend and got to do a little ski painting. It was a lot of fun, but skiing with a backpack full of paints and turps was a little nerve racking. What a mess it would be to crash. Here is the view from Catwalk looking south west towards the Palisades.

Robert Young Daisies

Morning painting at the ranch, looking north towards Uncle Jim’s house. The daisies were out in force and the weather was perfect. I had a lot visitors which is rare while out in the field, my mom, aunt and cousin all stopped to say hello.

Clouds Over Ross

Across the street from my apartment, looking north towards Ross. I dropped this painting in the dirt just as I finished the under painting. Picking all the rocks out was rather annoying. It cleaned up ok but the extra work set me back and I lost my light. I had to get the second pass in from memory. Frustrating.

Phoenix Lake Redwoods

I hiked up to the lake to try and find some redwoods. My sister says I don’t paint redwoods enough. My usual excuse it that they are so big I can’t find a decent composition. The only way to paint redwoods site size is to be really far away. I went to the lake with the idea that I could use the water to put some distance between me and them. I’m glad I went, Its so satisfying to see the lake full again. Lots of water.
