After dinner I drove up the mountain towards the Geysers and pulled off at the first big pullout above the ranch. The sun was already down by the time I started painting and there were a lot of cows and flies to keep me company. This is the view looking south. No underpainting this time so I won’t be surprised if the colors sink by morning. 1hr ala prima color sketch.
My first attempt at a portrait with oils. Thank you Zeldie for being patient and brave enough to model for me. Since I wasn’t painting outside I thought I would try something new and went with a Zorn pallet. This was a lot of fun. 1.5hr ala prima
Post coffee painting this time out on the west side of Alexander Valley on Hassett Ln looking west. Vinwood cellars on the far left of frame and Francis Ford Coppola Winery mid right. 1.5hr color study
Road the four wheeler up the hill and painted the view looking west towards Francis Ford Coppola winery. Once again, it got really windy. At this point I can’t remember what it’s like to paint when it’s calm. I struggled with the paint today butI like this view, I think I’ll try it again tomorrow.
Road my bike over to the river to get some painting time in. Didn’t put much thought into it and put down this really blah composition, then wasted the next hour trying to make it work. Back home I wasted more time trying to fix it. I guess parts of the tree are ok. At least I got some practice in. Better luck tomorrow.
Huddled behind my car for shelter, I still had to hang on to my painting with one hand just to keep it from being blown away. Looking south by the drainage ditch behind my Uncle Jims house. 1.5hr
Got my covid shot yesterday so today I was mess. Felt like I had a really bad hangover, couldn’t think straight. By the end of the day I was feeling a little better so I though I would have a go at a vineyard painting. Totally forgot I was wearing sunglasses and didn’t realize my mistake till twilight had past. 1hr
Before dinner I rode the four wheeler over to the lookout and painted the view back towards the Sheehy and Miller plots. Classic late Sonoma summer weather. It was hot, windy and dry as a bone up on the ridge. Too bad it’s only May. Well, Its looks like it’s going to be one hell of a long fire season. 1.5hr
