2021 Little Black Sketchbook
Here is another sketchbook. I guess this one documents season 2 of the great covid pandemic. Less drawings at home, more figure drawing and on location doodles, but still lots and lots of face masks. As an aside, I was reading A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway and Valley of the Moon by Jack London during this time and their influence is found throughout.

The Divorce Sketchbook
These were dark times. Shortly after starting this sketchbook the life I knew was suddenly and violently torn me. After seven years of marriage Virginia she asked me for a divorce. It seams she had finally grown tired of living with an artist. I hope one day my boys will understand how hard I tried to make it work.
I spent a good part of this last year looking inward. It has been painful yet enlightening. I would never wish this sort of pain on anyone. For all the agony though I can also say it has been an amazing journey of self discovery. I have learned more about myself in the last year than in all the previous. I have also found mountains of inspiration. I’m a single dad now, Between work and my kids I don’t have much time for art which is why this sketchbook al the more precious. It took a good deal of effort to finish it.

The Green Sketchbook
This Sketchbook is from 2014. Most of it was drawn in San Francisco while working for Lucasfilm on Star Wars Rebels. Parts were drawn in Hong kong and Vancouver. I should note that this book was taken by my five year old son one afternoon, he added some lovely drawings too it. Its the first time anyone has drawn in one of my sketchbooks. Mixed feelings, I probably would be upset had it been anybody else. His drawings are super fantastic though so I couldn’t be prouder. I got him a sketchbook of his own the next day and I’m proud to say he has filled several since. Silas is well on his way to becoming a great artist.
