2019-2020 Sketchbook

I started this Sketchbook toward the end of 2019 and completed it around march 2020. My plein air painting time started to take over my sketchbook time, so this book took longer than normal to fill. I should have uploaded it months ago but my scanner was trapped up north at my moms and lockdown made getting to it pretty much impossible. Finally got it back so here you go. Enjoy.

Half drawn

Half way through my current sketchbook. If all goes well it will be completed in about a month, but realistically, three months.

New sketchbook 2016

Starting a new sketchbook today. Another tiny red moleskin.

I’m going to make a more conscious effort to draw less formal in this one. The last one had too many nice drawings in it. I poured my heart into it and after a while that back fired on me, the book got too precious and I found myself hesitating to draw. That’s bad for creativity so this one will be messy and off the cuff. Back to basics. Flow of conscious. Don’t think, just draw.

This is a small Moleskine sketchbook only 2.5 x 4 inches. Drawn in Hong Kong, it took just over a month to finish.

The Moth Sketchbook

For your amusement I present the unabridged contents of my latest sketchbook.

Most of the work is exploratory ideas for a feature film I have been dreaming up about giant moths. As part of my research for the film I have also been actively photographing and ID’ing Hong Kong wildlife on iNaturalist. If you are a nature buff I encourage you to check out iNat its a pretty incredible resource. A few of the critters from my nightly moth hunts have ended up on the pages below.

The book itself is a moleskin watercolor pocket, 3.5 x 5.5in. Its pretty small so on your screen the art may appear magnified. It was completed over the course of three months and drawn entirely in Hong Kong. I finished the last page on June 6th, 2013. Front to back, the medium is pencil and watercolor, with the occasional gouache touch up.

As always enjoy, let me know what you guys think.
