I was painting in the Main Post of the Presidio at lunch today on Graham Street. It was a beautiful day here, with really nice light, and I couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The oils didn’t give me any trouble, The wind didn’t pick up like it usually does, I didn’t forget any supplies or drop the painting in the dirt, and the notifications on my phone said Trump was guilty on all all thirty four felony counts. It was a lovely afternoon.
Lunchtime painting in the Presidio once again.
I spent my lunch break today painting outside Cafe RX. It was a redo of a not-so-great oil sketch I did a few weeks ago. There’s something deeply satisfying about painting over your own work, especially when you see improvement. It’s not just a mental boost; physically, there’s a unique feel to painting over an already-painted canvas. Although, I’m not sure about the long-term stability of the piece since it seems to defy the ‘fat over lean’ rule.
It was far too cold and windy outside today so I retreated to the car and painted the houses on Funston Ave. looking west towards the hotel.

It was a windy afternoon at Piper Park in Larkspur, and I had to hold on to my canvas to keep it from flying away. Despite the wind, the light was great – bright but not blinding, though.

Lucasfilm has an abundance of palm trees and parrots, here are a few I painted at lunch. Northwest view about one hundred meters west of the Persidio gate bus stop.
This afternoon I found myself with the rare bit of free time on my hands and decided to make the most of it by making this little painting. My toddler had fallen asleep in his bike seat while we were ridding around the Healdsburg plaza so I sat down on a shady bench with my iPad. It was a lovely warm summers day and the plaza was full of tourists up for the weekend wine tastings. A trio of local kids were jamming blues riffs on their guitars and kids were playing in the fountain. I couldn’t be happier, it was a really nice day. Silas and I got ice cream after he woke up and then rode the long way back home through the vineyards.
