The kids and I made our annual pilgrimage to the swimming pool at Skywalker Ranch. I am told there are lots of other fun things to do at the company picnic, but as far as we are concerned, the pool is where it’s at. Once again, it did not disappoint us. After the morning fog burned off it was a perfect swimming day. Everyone had a great time.

The boys had their first swim competition on Saturday and it ignited their competitive spirit. We spent the rest of the weekend at the apartment pool swimming laps and practicing their diving starts. I painted this just before calling them in to dinner.
Rudie wanted to make a self portrait in oil so I showed him how to set up the gear and then helped him out with the paint mixing, and a bunch of observational tips. He was a great student. I think he did a great job. Not bad for his first try.

It was Silas’ first day of preschool today. It was a nightmare getting him out the door in the morning (classic) but once there he had a great time. The school has a large outdoor chalkboard so I spent some time drawing with the kids, taking animal requests.
This afternoon I found myself with the rare bit of free time on my hands and decided to make the most of it by making this little painting. My toddler had fallen asleep in his bike seat while we were ridding around the Healdsburg plaza so I sat down on a shady bench with my iPad. It was a lovely warm summers day and the plaza was full of tourists up for the weekend wine tastings. A trio of local kids were jamming blues riffs on their guitars and kids were playing in the fountain. I couldn’t be happier, it was a really nice day. Silas and I got ice cream after he woke up and then rode the long way back home through the vineyards.

Ok, at first this may not seem like it has much to do with animation but here are some sketches I made for a little lazy river time-lapse camera mount. My brother and I are pretty avid tinkerers and ever since I gave him an HDhero cam for his birthday we keep playing around with different camera mount ideas. He’s made a pretty decent surfing head mount system but I can’t shake the idea of building some sort of floating stand to follow us on our inevitable drunken float down the russian river later in the summer. We usually travel with an armada of friends and I just love the idea of documenting the trip as an epic time-lapse pixilation film.
My brother, mr. obvious, was quick to point out that we could do the same thing by just strapping a tripod to an inner tube. Yes, yes these are overly complex and unstable but they kind of have a suessian vibe that I like. Anyways, thought I would share. If the trip happens I will be sure to post the film.
