Got one more snowy landscape in before driving back down the mountain. This one was just fifty meters east of the main lodge at Sugar Bowl looking south down the side road towards Nob hill and part of Mt. Disney.
I had a fantastic day skiing at Sugar Bowl today, and even managed to squeeze in a quick painting before the lifts closed. The view of Crows Nest from Jerome Hill, as seen from Central Pacific. Despite feeling a bit frozen after my hour-long session, I couldn’t help but grin as I skied up to the cabin. It was a truly great day.
Really clear sky’s in the Bay Area today. I could see the snowy cap of Mt. Diablo from the hills here in Larkspur. Had fun painting the view until I got rained out once again.
It snowed last night so the boys and I drove up the hill to check out the view from the Geysers overlook. It’s pretty uncommon to get snow here so we were having a great time of it. The boys and I threw a few snowballs and had fun driving our RC tank around in the snow. Afterwards I set up my gear and went to work. A few other people had the same idea as us and pulled over to admire the view. One of them was photographer Jerry Dodrill who was out hunting winter landscapes. His work is really beautiful, if you haven’t seen it he currently has a show at Sessions climbing gym in Santa Rosa and a photo gallery in Bodega, CA. Go Check it out.
More ski painting at Sugar Bowl! Here is the view looking west towards Mt. Disney from Sidewinder on a very sunny afternoon. I lost track of how many people slowed down or stopped to see what I was painting. It was a really fun place setup.
After spending all day storyboarding action and drama, taking two hours to paint a landscape where nothing happens is pure self indulgence. Ok,got it out of my system, back to work.
If I can’t go to the mountains then the mountains will come to me. Painted this snowy landscape to remind myself that places outside of the office exist.
Late as always, I just now finished painting this years family christmas card. Peace and love to everyone out there on the internets.
It was an exciting morning. I discovered that the good folks over at ArtRage added script recording to their iPad app. After the download and a quick cup of coffee I started doodling this little mountain railway scene.
I was really geeking out over this new addition because a few weeks back I had requested this very feature and now it was a reality. Major props to the ArtRage dev team on this one. I’m sure the idea was in the pipes long before I had ever thought of it. Super fantastic, I can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeves.
After exporting my thumbnail script I up-ressed the painting on the desktop app and went to town. This whole process worked exactly as I had imagined. With the newly expanded canvas on my mac I was able to really flush the painting out, smudge it up and add in a lot of detail that would have taken forever on the iPad.
I really like this new workflow. Its simple, straight forward and functional. I can see myself using this a lot in the future.
