Up on the hill behind moms looking east. 1.5hr color study

Crazy windy once again. This is over by the vineyard shop looking east. 1.5hr

Had another go painting the view towards Francis Ford Coppola Winery. Went a bit earlier and got lucky as the wind was more manageable.

Road the four wheeler up the hill and painted the view looking west towards Francis Ford Coppola winery. Once again, it got really windy. At this point I can’t remember what it’s like to paint when it’s calm. I struggled with the paint today butI like this view, I think I’ll try it again tomorrow.

Huddled behind my car for shelter, I still had to hang on to my painting with one hand just to keep it from being blown away. Looking south by the drainage ditch behind my Uncle Jims house. 1.5hr

Spent the morning reading good reviews for The Bad Batch, which was nice, then walked behind the house and painted the eucalyptus grove as it caught the last of the morning light. The grass really started to bleach out, it’s nearly all golden now. the green is hanging on in places but its days are numbered. I think I need to add a cadmium yellow light to my pallet.

Well I guess summer is here. I nearly melted in the heat of the sun while painting this and the fire department drove up the hill to put out a small burn pile that got out of hand. Mad respect to Geyserville fire, they are amazing.

Plein Air 1.5hr Study of one of the ponds on the family ranch.

Cruised up and over Bald hill on my bike looking for a place to draw but the light wasn’t great so I settled for a bench atop the Phoenix Lake Dam and discovered my drawing pad had dissolved! Funny story. In my rush to get out the door I stowed it under my cycling jersey and that apparently wasn’t the smartest move. My sweat melted the paper. I literally had to peal paper pulp off my back. Lesson learned, Jerseys are not archival storage.
On the upside enough paper survived to do a little watercolor doodle. Maybe that’s not the right word. sweatcolor doodle. Yeah that’s more accurate.

I was painting by the post office steps today in Ross, CA and heard a great deal of cautiously optimistic chatter regarding the election. One gentleman summed up the mood of the community thus, “We might actually be able to sleep next week.” Wouldn’t that be nice.
