Escaping the House of Gold
Added another Wakefield water-color doodle to my sketchbook last night. I penciled in a few more panels as well but it may be a few days before I have a chance to paint them.

Going though my files today I found this abandoned painting. I was intending to use it as the background art for this website but it proved to be too large. It slowed the site loading time down so I ditched it. I like the cluttered space though. Worth sharing.
Cleaning out my office this morning I found a few doodles on various bits of scrap paper. Thought I would share before tossing them out. These drawings are from a few months back. I believe I was waiting for something to render in Zbrush when I penciled them.
Took a break today from the watercolors and made a quick digital oil character sketch in ArtRage. The character is from my Wakefield project. He is sort of a darwinian-intellectual-mathematician-carpetbagger type who gets pulled along on Wakefield’s adventures. I’m still flushing him out at the moment so nothing is too solid. Even the name is temp but I thought I would give a nod to Rube Goldberg I’ve always been fond of his illogical logic. Those charming qualities will hopefully be present in this young scientist as well.
I recorded the event as a script so afterwords I was able to make a time-lapse recording. It plays back at four times speed.
“Ideas are Dangerous” is the label given to a band of seafaring pirate monks in my Wakefield story. The monks travel the world coping important texts and codexes which they believe are valuable treasures. For this they are branded criminals and chased across the ocean blue. The monks embrace their trouble maker image and sail the high seas in search of the greatest treasure of all, truth. No library is safe.
I doodled their pirate logo on a piece of scrap paper today and thought I’d share.
A few more pages from my sketchbook. More Wakefield story doodles. I’m having fun with this sequence so I think I’ll just keep going until it all falls apart. On a technical note, I really need to get a scanner. The photographs I’m posting here are fuzzy and the color is off. I’ve tried to correct it but you can only do so much.
For the record, I have had this wax pencil & cardboard doodle of Wakefield sitting over my desk for a few years now.
Saw my painting on TV today while watching the Olympics here in Hong Kong :)
A few more pages pulled from my sketchbook. This is part of an ongoing storm sequence from my wakefield project.
In honor of the Mars Curiosity Rover safely landing on Mars this afternoon I thought it would be nice to share some of these old Space Chimps rover concept drawings. It was fascinating to watch todays events unfold . I can’t help but reflect back to when I was in high school and watched Sojourner land on a dial up with my old mac tower. Moments like these really spark the imagination. Congrats to everyone at JPL.
