The time difference between Hong Kong and the Bay Area is cruel. I’ve been at Lucasfilm for a week now and am still struggling to deal with the jet lag. Since I can’t sleep I figure I might as well paint. Here’s my little drowsy eyed, late night doodle.

This is a small Moleskine sketchbook only 2.5 x 4 inches. Drawn in Hong Kong, it took just over a month to finish.
This morning I had to go to central Hong Kong for a CPR class and brought with me a bag full of gouache paints in anticipation of finding something to paint. Passed though the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens on my way home. It is a stunning place to say the least. I was blown away by this gorgeous park. Spend an hour or so drawing by the aviary and primate cages then sat beneath this magnificent grove to paint. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
Found out I’m headed to California next week for a storyboarding job. Started dreaming about the mountains and painted this.
This sketchbook spans 2003-2004. I was finishing my MFA in animation at USC and beginning work at Vanguard Animation when this was drawn. The book covers a huge range of subjects and styles. I was really all over the place with this one.
This sketchbook was made while I was a student at USC Animation. It is dated spring to summer 2003. The bulk of the work explores a thesis proposal I was working on with Daisy Church called Kalifia. There are also a few drawings from Vanguard Animation in here. Daisy and I had just started interning at Vanguard while they were in production on Valiant.
